4 Compact Equipment JULY/AUGUST 2018 20 SKID STEER LOADERS Since its inception in the 1950s, the skid steer has redefined the tool carrier concept in the con- struction machinery industry, using hundreds of hydraulically operated attachments to fit into almost any worksite — construction, landscape, farming and beyond. 38 COMPACT TRACK LOADERS The compact track loader is one of the most ver- satile and useful tools a contractor can find on tracks, providing improved capability over soft terrain and increased capacity compared to skid steers. Engineered with a dedicated undercar- riage, it's a tool carrier on tracks. 56 MINI EXCAVATORS Excavators are the ultimate digging tools, and compact excavators are the ultimate digging tools when it comes to urban areas and confined jobsite applications. We define compact excava- tors (also called mini excavators) as excavators under 6 to 8 metric tons. 78 COMPACT TRACTORS The compact utility tractor is a do-it-all tool carrier used by farmers, landscapers, grounds- keepers, golf courses, large estate owners and operators of every type. Compact tractors are a versatile breed of machine that can take imple- ments in the front, rear and belly. 88 UTILITY VEHICLES Utility vehicles or UTVs have fast become the new popular all-terrain transport alternative. Engineered with a cargo bed, tow-hitch, racking for tools and even attachments, UTVs are being engineered for work applications in construc- tion, landscape, ag and beyond. 104 COMPACT TOOL CARRIERS Sometimes attachments make the machine. No- where does that ring truer than with a compact tool carrier (often called a compact utility loader or mini skid steer, depending the brand). Com- pact tool carriers are specifically designed to run tons of different implements — from breakers to backhoes. 112 COMPACT WHEEL LOADERS With the ability to switch out attachments, move large loads and keep operators comfy in their cabs, compact wheel loaders deliver big power and efficiency in a variety of different sized units. Pair them with the right tools, and this machine can offer yearlong productivity, especially in snow removal applications.
