10 Compact Equipment SEPTEMBER 2018 Entering its 53rd season, registra- tion is now open for Volvo's 2018- 2019 Road Institute, one of the paving industry's premier training programs. Offering a mix of classroom and hands-on training on a variety of op- erations and maintenance topics, ses- sions start in late October 2018 and continue through May 2019. "We encourage people to register early because sessions fill up fast. That's especially true of our extreme- ly popular Paver and Compactor Operation and Maintenance class," said Wayne Tomlinson, Road Insti- tute compaction training specialist. "Our students leave the classes with increased knowledge that will help them produce better quality mats, reduce operation and maintenance costs and improve on a variety of other skills." Sessions last two to five days and are held at the Road Institute Train- ing Center in Shippensburg and Chambersburg, Pa., and at the Road Institute West location in Phoenix. All instructors have decades of expe- rience, and they incorporate train- ing on the latest DOT requirements. The paver and compactor operator courses also qualify toward NAPA Diamond Paving commendation re- quirements. The 2018-2019 course schedule can be viewed at roadin- and includes everything for paver and compactor operation and maintenance to automatic grade and slope system lessons.
