14 Compact Equipment JANUARY 2019 The biggest trade show in the world by physical size is called bauma, and it only happens every three years in Munich, Germany. Covering the massive event is like working a marathon. That's why we've been training and planning to attend for well over a year — be- cause the construction machinery, mining and technology event will be bigger than ever in 2019, run- ning April 8 to 14. In late 2018, we met with show organizers Messe München for lunch in Cleveland to discuss how impressively expansive the show has become. "We expect more than 3,500 ex- hibitors from 60 countries in the world, and we are pretty sure that we can boast 600,000 visitors at bau- ma," explained Klaus Dittrich, chair- man and CEO of Messe München. "It will be more than 200 countries in the world. Two hundred countries is more than the members in the United Nations." There are two new halls, which makes 18 giant indoor facilities for booths, plus a zillion outdoor ex- hibitors. For perspective, consider America's biggest trade show center in Las Vegas only has three indoor halls. The world of construction — machine makers, OEM system pro- viders, technology companies, world trade associations and everything in between — will rub elbows and talk business in the heart of Bavaria. "What motivates 600,000 people to flock to the trade fairgrounds in Munich within seven days?" asked Dittrich. "I think one important reason is that bauma shows the full dimension of the construction ma- chinery industry. It's really the place to be to see the latest innovations in the industry." (BMI) celebrated 25 years in business. In 2019, the northern Ohio trade publisher and media company con- tinues to push into the future with the promotion of two new publishers from a pair of employees who have a combined 40-year tenure. Kelly Dadich will be promoted from mar- keting manager to associate publish- er of Trenchless Technology , a trade publication dedicated to evasive util- ity installation and the flagship mag- azine of BMI. Keith Gribbins will be promoted from associate publisher to publisher on Compact Equipment , the magazine you're holding focused on small, versatile off-highway con- struction equipment which he has helmed from its start in 2001. "Kelly and Keith have been with the com- pany since its early days, and they have both grown into great ambassa- dors for their respective industries. I congratulate them both on their im- pressive journeys to publishers," said Robert Krzys, COO at BMI. No one photo can truly show how big this show is. You gotta experience it.
